dual 40kV cascade multiplier

Some time during the last week of June I actually dug out the parts I had saved for the "twin" of my 4 stage cascade multiplier that I used to destory CDs and charge up my quarter crusher. It is made of two halfs of the largest Radio Shack traceless perfboard, 8 Sanken 12kV 350mA diodes and 4 MuRata 2000pF 20kV ceramic disk capacitors. One is wired to make upto +40kV and the other -40kV. I Do know that the first one can make at least 35 kV no load which I measured with a TV flyback voltmeter. All 3 second long exposures were taken with Krodak, my Kodak DC-260 digital camera. The room had close to no lighting. The level on the 0-120VAC variac was 75 to 90%. This ran an Actown 15kV neon sign transformer. Each half winding on the neon sign transformer ran each multiplier. Both were grounded to the case of the transformer making +/-40kV. Maybe under oil it would actualy acheive a differential of 70kV.

The gap between the two tattoo needlebars is a true 3". The looped ends face each other.

the suspense of a 4" and 4.5" gap!!
